Tattoo for a Cause flash day: Why We’re Giving It All Away

This year marks 9 years of HBSC Tattoo Studio.

Nine years ago, we opened our doors with a dream: to create art that would live forever…on your skin, and in your heart.

We could’ve celebrated with a party. But this year, we want to mark the moment with something that truly matters.

So on Saturday, June 28th, we’re hosting a Tattoo for a Cause Flash Day, where 100% of proceeds will go to a cause that cuts deep.

We’ve chosen to support Metta Mama & Maggha Foundation, because their work is incredibly close to our hearts.

Why this matters

Most of our team are parents. We know the joy, fear, responsibility, and above all, the love that comes with raising a child. And we believe every baby deserves to feel that.

To feel wanted. Safe. Chosen.

But here in Indonesia, that’s not always the reality.

In a society where having a child outside of marriage is still deeply stigmatised, many women find themselves completely alone.

Abortion is heavily restricted: only legal in limited cases, such as medical emergencies or rape — and even then, under strict legal requirements.

On top of that, the adoption process is incredibly difficult. Only families with no children or one child are considered eligible.

And the adoptive parents must be of the same religion as the birth mother, a regulation that severely limits options for many abandoned babies.

The truth is: these women are often not making selfish choices: they’re doing the best they can see possible for their babies.

In most cases, they face rejection from their own families, exclusion from their communities, pressure to hide their pregnancy, and no financial support to raise a child alone. Financial instability and social pressure leave countless women facing impossible decisions.

It’s easy to judge from the outside.

But to truly understand this issue, you need to live here.

To witness how deeply cultural and religious values are intertwined with family honor, community belonging, and survival.

Family is everything in Indonesia, and when that support system is pulled away, there is often nowhere else to turn.

This is where Metta Mama & Maggha steps in.

They provide shelter, safety, and support to pregnant women and babies who have been left behind — not because they weren’t loved, but because their mothers had no real options.

These children didn’t get to choose their story. But maybe, through this event, you can help rewrite it.

How It Works

On Saturday, 28/06/2025, from 9AM to 4PM, we’re running a Flash Tattoo Day at our studio in Legian.

• IDR 1,000,000 per tattoo (American Traditional and Fine Line flash designs)‍
• 100% of proceeds go to @mettamamamaggha‍
• We pledge to raise IDR 15,000,000 (≈ AUD 1,500): if we don’t hit that amount through tattoos, we’ll match the rest ourselves.
